Winter Boots: Fashion and Function

Danielle brings us her advice on how you can combine great style with the need to wear WARM boots for winter.  With snow and ice not just in New England, it is time to get out those sexy boots.

Danielle says:

What do you get when you combine fabulous fashion with reliable function?
Fabulous cold weather boots! With boot season in full swing, I hunted down the best deals on functional, fashionable, affordable boots -- bound to get you through the most frigid New England weather conditions.

Here goes:

The Zigi Keenly Wedge Bootie

This ultra trendy wedge bootie will not sacrifice fashion for function. The combination of the faux suede upper and fleece lining will keep you cozy AND stylish with every step. The beefy sole provides perfect traction for inclement winter weather. Although I'm partial to the tan (below), the black is equally fab.  Buy them at DSW for $69.95.

The Pelican Fleece Tall Rainboot by Sperry

Beat the slush and freezing rain with a new twist on a classic. The shiny rubber boot accompanied by a cushioned, micro-fleece lining will only give you added comfort and warmth. The timeless navy quilted pattern on the shaft almost transforms the rubber to give a soft leather feel. Available in a multitude of colors including houndstooth and plaid. Find them at Macy's for $78.00.

The Apley Tall Boot by Timberland

Timberland's boots are known for their rugged durability.  The Apley's lugged, rubber sole grounds a burnished riding boot designed with an easy, on-side zipper and anti-fatigue footbed for all-day comfort.  This boot features beautiful waterproof leather, protecting your feet from all wet weather conditions.  The Apley is available in a variety of colors and in a mid-height shaft as well. Find them at Piperlime for $129.99.

The Cozy Bootie by Mojo Moxy

The name says it all.  This is the complete package of fashion and function.  Cozy's distressed leather outer is paired perfectly with a decorative collar featuring decorative accents and faux fur lining.  Full back zipper makes for easy on and off action and textured rubber sole completes this bootie for traction on those slippery winter grounds.  Find them at Shoes.com for $149.99.

Of course, no list of winter boots would be complete without Classic Shorts from UGG Australia

Although they are not trendsetters, nor are they ultra chic or fashion forward, UGGs have become a winter staple for every woman in New England (and elsewhere, too). These basic boots allow us to protect our stems from the elements with supple suede and rich, thick shearing.  While chestnut may be the most popular color seen in these parts, the variety is endless.  Zappos - $155

Boots on a Jeep

It's winter...which means boot weather.  And soon (today) there will be more about how to look great in winter boots.  But for now, here are some boots on a Jeep.  Yep, boots are useful in winter.  Jeeps are useful in winter.  Together, you can conquer the world.

Casual Friday Shoes

So, Monday through Thursday I typically wear a suit.  And when I do, I wear black dress shoes -- the kind with laces!

But, today is Friday.  I'm wearing a shirt with a button-down collar and khakis.  And loafers.

To be more specific, they are cordovan loafers -- Kenneth Cole "On Key"

They are comfortable, look great, and are still dressy enough for the business setting and/or after work activities on a Friday.  A good transitional shoe to take you into the weekend.

Guys: You need dress shoes

Yes, every man should have at least one good pair of BLACK dress shoes.

Like these:

These are from Cole Haan -- the Cassady Captoe II, to be specific.  Leather.  Black.  Lace up.

Men's dress shoes have LACES.  Loafers or "slip-on" shoes do NOT go with your well-chosen, tailored suit.  Ever.  Grey trousers, blue sportcoat, tie and possibly slip-on leather shoes.  but NOT with a suit.

If you are escorting your girlfriend to a wedding, you NEED a pair of shoes like these.  This particular pair will run you between $100 and $140 depending on where you buy.  That's a great deal.  I tried a pair on last night and they are comfortable, classy, and will make any suit look great.  Cole Haan is a solid brand and they make quality products.  So, ditch the square-toed loafers you wore with a suit in college -- get these! Wear them with a suit to a wedding, a job interview, or anywhere else that calls for dress clothes.

Wedding Shoes

If you're looking to wear shoes for a wedding...your friends, one you're in, one you're attending ... do it just like this:

Mollie's (left) shoe choice is incredible and well-worn.  Her sister, Katia, also shows of her style in some killer peeptoes... Mollie is truly becoming a style icon in her own right.  Beautiful, charming, and willing to experiment in the name of fashion, she's one to follow.

What's that shoe?

Those, my friends, are Fluevogs!

And they are wonderful.

Note the intricate detail.  The luscious curve of the richly detailed heel.

You know the woman wearing these is interesting... deep ... sardonic, even.

And you love it.
